Rothaus is a historic German brewery in the Black Forest founded in 1791 by the Benedictine monastery of St. Blasien at the inn “Zum Rothen Haus,” chosen for its abundant water and forest resources; it became the Grand Ducal Baden State Brewery after secularization in 1806 and expanded through the 19th century with modernization, early adoption of bottled beer, and transport innovations. A major identity milestone was in 1956 with the launch of its iconic 0.33 L Tannenzäpfle, which became the brewery’s flagship. In the 2000s Rothaus built a new brew house and celebrated major anniversaries, while maintaining traditional brewing methods and growing into one of Germany’s well-known regional breweries
